The Houston Astros moved to sign superstar second baseman Jose Altuve to a $125 million extension earlier this week. Some Astro fans might be wondering: What about Alex Bregman?

The accomplished Bregman, a veteran third baseman who’s won multiple World Series Championships with the team, is one of their franchise’s most notable players. Bregman has certainly earned a lengthy extension with the team.

With that said, it doesn’t appear it’s likely to happen anytime soon.

Chandler Rome, a longtime Astros beat reporter, emerged with news on a potential extension for Bregman. “Dana Brown said his conversation with Scott Boras yesterday reiterated that there’s no timeline for Alex Bregma,n but ‘at some point, we will make an offer,’ Brown said.”

Rome posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

Last season, Bregman posted a 4.9 bWAR in his eighth season with the Astros. He hit .262/.363/.441 for an OPS of .804. Bregman also posted an OPS of 122 with 25 home runs, 103 runs scored, and 98 RBI.

Bregman has put together a terrific career. Over his eight years in the big leagues, Bregman’s hit .274/.373/.487 for an OPS of .861. His best season thus far was his 2019 effort, which landed him as the runner-up for the American League MVP award. He hit .296/.423/.592 that season with a league-high 119 walks drawn.

That extension is likely to come. Just not anytime soon, it seems.
