Brewers Mets scuffle Credit: SNYTV

The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets didn’t exchange pleasantries for long this season. It only took until their first game of the season to already generate a scuffle that’s gotten a swath of attention on Friday afternoon.

Milwaukee held a 3-1 advantage over New York heading into the 8th inning. Brewers infielder Willy Adames was at the plate opposing Mets pitcher Michael Tonkin. Tonkin dealt the pitch and Adames swung and connected on a ground ball to 3rd baseman Brett Baty. Baty threw to Jeff McNeil who went to throw to first. However, Rhys Hoskins slid in hard and no throw was made.

Unsurprisingly, this bristled McNeil and this exchange led to a tense moment on the field. The New York and Milwaukee benches cleared while Hoskins and McNeil exchanged words. Hoskins mocked McNeil with a crybaby gesture he mimicked on his way off the field.

Funny enough, umpires ruled Hoskins’ slide didn’t violate any rules. So, the Brewers were allowed to keep the base.

It didn’t take long at all for things to get heated on the diamond. MLB season is here, and with that occasionally comes a bench-clearing situation. Fortunately for all involved, nothing out of the unusual happened here and both teams retired to the benches.

The Brewers went on to defeat the Mets 3-1 to score their first win of the season.

Here’s how the MLB world reacted to the scuffle.
