The Cleveland Browns probably didn’t anticipate Deshaun Watson missing so much time when they acquired the former first-round pick. Watson, whose play has diminished over the past few seasons, among a litany of other dispiriting circumstances emerging. He’s also missed time due to injury, something the Browns dealt with all last season.

Earlier this season in Week 10, Watson suffered a shoulder injury that eventually spiraled into a season-ending injury. This week, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski updated everyone on his progress.

“He’s coming along. I know he’s going to start throwing here shortly,” Stefanski said via Pro Football Talk. “Ken [Dorsey] and I are going to go out and see him next week and spend some time – not talk football, just catch up.”

More from Stefanski:

“Won’t see him throw. But just want to check in on him. I text him almost every day, so he’s in a good place.”

In two seasons with Cleveland, Watson is just 8-4 through 12 starts. He made six in his first season after missing the first ten games due to a suspension stemming from a multitude of sexual assault allegations against him.

Watson’s thrown for 2,217 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in those 12 games. The Browns not only acquired Watson through trade, but gave him $230 million fully guaranteed. It’s safe to say they might be paying for that move someday.
