While the Cleveland Browns celebrated a huge win over the weekend, there was one unfortunate storyline. Backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson appeared for the Browns late in their rout over the Houston Texans. Things turned sour for DTR as he was turned around awkwardly on a sack.

Things turned even more sour for Thompson-Robinson on Tuesday. The Browns moved to put their backup quarterback on injured reserve, shutting him down for the remainder of the year.

Cleveland also signed quarterback P.J. Walker to the active roster in a corresponding move.

“We’ve placed QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson on injured reserve,” the Browns said in their post. They announced the roster move on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

They’re unfortunate circumstances for DTR. The Browns appear poised to make the NFL Playoffs this season, holding a 10-5 record going into the final two weeks. While quarterback Joe Flacco is enjoying a renaissance, this string of great play could go up in smoke anytime soon. The door could have been opened for him to take it. But, cruelly, perhaps, DTR won’t be able to participate in Cleveland’s looming postseason activities.

In what was his rookie season, Thompson-Robinson made three starts and threw for 440 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions. We’ll have to wait until 2024 to see what the former UCLA Bruins quarterback has to offer.
