Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has had an eventful year. Despite his best efforts to get it going, fate intervened in an unfortunate way for Taylor. The star tailback will require thumb surgery after sustaining the injury recently.

ESPN reporter Stephen Holder, who follows the Colts, reported on the news about Taylor and his injury status.

“Talked to Jonathan Taylor after Sunday’s game and got no indication he was hurt. As it turns out, he has a thumb injury (as @RapSheet said), and while there have been no decisions, injured reserve is on the table, I’m told. It’s definitely a legit injury,” Holder said.

Holder posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

It would be a disappointing end to a disappointing year for Taylor. The former Wisconsin star got in a public battle with the team and owner Jim Irsay over his contract in the summer. Taylor wanted more money and running backs like Taylor voiced their displeasure for recent switches in the market. Those changes have made it harder for running backs like him to get money they feel they’ve earned.

Taylor appeared in just seven games this season for the Colts. He rushed the ball 100 times for 414 yards and four touchdowns. That’s a far cry from his league-leading 1,811 yards in 2021.

With Taylor out of the lineup, expect the Colts to turn to Zack Moss.
