The Miami Dolphins and Vic Fangio ended up having a short-term relationship. On Wednesday, news emerged that the Dolphins and Fangio will part ways after one season together.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter and his ESPN colleague Jeremy Fowler were among those to report the news.

“The Dolphins have mutually agreed to part ways,” Schefter posted. Schefter also added that Fangio will become “the top target for the Philadelphia Eagles to hire as their defensive coordinator, and a deal is expected.”

Schefter reported that Miami and Fangio agreed to mutually part ways after the longtime defensive coordinator “wanted to be closer to his family in Pennsylvania.”

The Eagles recently made changes to their coaching staff. Although, if you listen to their fans, it might not have been enough. Nick Sirianni was not let go and will remain the team’s head coach. But he’ll now have Fangio, one of the best defensive minds in his era, aboard his staff.

The Eagles’ defense is not short on talent. But the unit and the team went through a December slide they never overcame. Tampa Bay bounced Philly from the Wild Card round to cap a disappointing end to the Eagles’ season.

Time will now tell to see if Fangio significantly impacts Philadelphia’s defense. If he does, this will go down as quite an important hire.
