Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs lost it over the weekend, and not just on the field. The Chiefs lost to the Buffalo Bills in an intense game that came down to the wire. NFL officials erased a would-be go-ahead touchdown for the Chiefs after Kadarius Toney was ruled offsides. Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid were visibly unhappy and distraught over it, Mahomes especially.

After the game, Mahomes approached Allen and called it the “oddest ******* call” the two-time Super Bowl champion had ever seen. Allen was cordial but didn’t offer much of a response at the time.

On Wednesday, Allen responded to Mahomes’ full-fledged apology that came earlier this week. Suffice it to say, Allen didn’t think it was even necessary.

Pro Football Talk wrote:

“He reached out to me,” Allen said, via video from Thad Brown of WROC. “I’m just like, ‘It’s football; it’s a game of emotion.’ I nkow he didn’t mean anything by it. I know the cameras kind of caught the last few seconds of what we were talking about. He’s an ultimate comeptitor. He wants to win. That’s why he is who he is.”

It’s reasonable to suggest it, even if the reactions from the Chiefs were so high-octane. They came off whiny, which many didn’t appreciate.

But in the spectrum of sports, an outburst from Mahomes was probably overdue. The greats have always had their moments, so this just wound up as Mahomes’. The Chiefs have much bigger issues, as they need to really get it together before things get shaky.

But if nothing else, worrying about what happened on Sunday is now out of the picture for both sides.
