You never truly know what you’ll get out of sports sometimes. It can be tremendous, sometimes even hilarious. We got a sense of that and more on Saturday afternoon during an MLS game in Chicago.
The Chicago Fire and CF Montreal played in a game on Saturday afternoon outside the Windy City at the Fire’s venue. Midfielder Kellyn Acosta will remember his game-winning goal for the rest of his life.
Acosta hit one from around midfield. The heavy wind in Chicagoland on Saturday took notice, picking the ball up with it. The wind sent the ball sailing high and then, spectacularly, into the net for a goal!
The goal sent the Fire crowd and the team into frenzy!
THAT'S WHY THEY CALL IT THE WINDY CITY

This is certainly one of the most incredible things you’ll see. There’s only so much that you can really get on the goalkeeper for. The wind taking the ball for that kind of ride, to that degree, was unthinkable! So it’s a dispiriting moment for him as much as it’s sensational for Acosta and the Fire.
The win propelled the Fire as the MLS season wages on. It was the club’s first win of the 2024 season, as they improved to 1-1-2 in the young season.
As you might expect, the sports world had much to say about this incredible goal.
The MLS is so goofy. https://t.co/rmoxmYq30p

Shout to the Fire for the most bonkers game I’ve been to in years
*editors note: they do not call it the Windy City because of the wind https://t.co/Udvl6R1gRB pic.twitter.com/sk4adIsfD2

Kellyn Acosta ties Eric Wynalda for the latest game-winning goal in Fire history. 99’ stunner.
