Earlier this year, it was revealed that former football superstar and notorious murder suspect O.J. Simpson was battling cancer, and it sounds like he has now lost that battle at the age of 76.

On Thursday morning, the family of O.J. Simpson announced on his social media account that the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL MVP had passed away after his battle with cancer.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” The Simpson Family wrote on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Simpson obviously has a rather complicated legacy as he earned fame as a massive star on the football field, but controversy after he was a suspect in the murder of his wife and her friend.

After a spectacular football career in which he won the Heisman Trophy with the USC Trojans and the NFL MVP as a member of the Buffalo Bills, Simpson was infamously arrested and charged with murdering his wife and her friend back in 1994. However, after what was called “The Trial of the Century,” Simpson was acquitted of the charges.
