The MLB world is buzzing after news emerged out of San Diego. The Padres are reportedly pursuing several starting pitchers. One of them is a former ace for the New York Mets.
Noah Syndergaard is reportedly the next target for the Padres. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the Padres are interested in the former Cy Young finalist. Syndergaard is one of several names San Diego is targeting, a list that includes veterans Eric Lauer, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Michael Lorenzen.
Funnily enough, the Padres have been interested in Syndergaard for a while. There were rumors that the Padres “checked in’ on him five years ago ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. Then there were also rumors they were interested in him during the 2018 offseason. While none of that happened, it would be funny to see him finally land in San Diego.
Syndergaard has been a reliable starter when healthy. Throughout his eight-year career, he’s posted a 3.71 career ERA through 941.1 innings pitched. He has 928 strikeouts recorded to just 216 walks, well over a 2:1 ratio. Syndergaard pitched in the 2015 World Series with the Mets, who fell shy of a World Series title to the Kansas City Royals. He recently pitched for the Padres’ NL West rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
