The San Diego Padres recently added veteran starting pitcher Wandy Peralta to the club. If recent reports are true, the team might not be done buying up pitchers quite yet.

According to a report from the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres have an interest in another veteran hurler. San Diego wants Noah Syndergaard, according to longtime Padres reporter Kevin Acee.

“Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune adds another veteran arm to that list, as the Padres have also shown interest in Noah Syndergaard,” MLB Trade Rumors wrote. The popular MLB rumor mill site listed Eric Lauer, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Michael Lorenzen as potential Padre targets as well.

This is, interestingly enough, not the first time that Syndergaard and the Padres have been linked. In 2019, there were rumors that the New York Mets could have dealt “Thor” to San Diego. Even back in 2018, the Padres reportedly were enamored with him.

So, if it does happen? The Padres organization would surely get a player they’ve desired to have for a long time. Syndergaard isn’t quite the pitcher he appeared to be at first due to injury and durability concerns that have arisen. He’s still reliable when he can be, and the Padres wouldn’t sign him as a frontline starter, but rather a depth piece. So you can see the vision here.

In his eight-year career, Syndergaard has posted a 3.71 career ERA in 941.1 career innings pitched with 928 strikeouts to 216 walks.
