Tommy Tremble

Tommy Tremble has been mostly buried on the Carolina Panthers bench since being drafted in the third round in 2021, but Sunday the tight end showed he’s ready to leap into a new role.

And we mean literally leap.

Tremble entered Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with only two catches on the season, including a one-yard touchdown reception in Week 5. But on one first quarter play, he flashed the incredible athleticism that led the Panthers to invest the high draft pick on him.

Tremble took a short pass from Bryce Young and turned upfield. Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard came up to make a tackle to stop him short of the first-down marker …and Tremble leaped right over him.

It wasn’t quite Vince Carter leaping and dunking over a 7-2 Frenchman-type hang time, because Howard had lowered his head to attempt the tackle. But it was still very impressive.

Tremble continued, broke a couple of tackles and finished with a 21-yard gain.

Many Panthers fans have questioned why the athletic Tremble doesn’t get more playing time. (Maybe it’s an NFC South thing — Atlanta Falcons fans have been asking the same thing about their athletic tight end, Kyle Pitts.)

Whatever the reasoning, plays like that can’t hurt Tremble’s bid to play more. NFL fans were definitely impressed.
