The Las Vegas Raiders moved to dump a veteran cornerback on their roster Monday.

Vegas decided to part ways with cornerback Marcus Peters. The move comes after a brief stint with the team, as he was only signed by the Raiders for this season.

Raiders reporter Vic Tafur posted the news of Peters’ release from the team.

“Breaking: The Raiders have released CB Marcus Peters. He had an interception return for a TD in Week 8, but was benched last night,” Tafur wrote on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. He added that Peters’ release means the team will save $1.5 million in incentives that they were going to award the veteran cornerback if he stayed with the team.

Peters has been in the NFL since 2015. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Peters in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft after he spent his collegiate career at Washington. Peters led the NFL in interceptions (8) and pick-sixes (2) as a rookie and also led in passes defended (26).

Across his nine-year career, Peters has 33 interceptions, 19 of them with the Chiefs. He had eight with the Baltimore Ravens, five with the Los Angeles Rams, and then the aforementioned one that went for a pick-six with the Raiders.

We’ll see what’s next for Peters after this move. It’s possible that a playoff-contending team could think to get him if they need his services for the stretch run.
