The status of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been in the air lately. Stafford injured his thumb https://twitter.com/HoldenCantor/status/1719817023054574024in the Rams’ deflating loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. Head coach Sean McVay provided an update on the former Super Bowl champion. Fortunately for Los Angeles, the update was mostly positive.

Rams reporter Jourdan Rodrigue provided the update on the veteran quarterback. Rodrigue posted the update on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. The update read:

“Early Monday morning, as they were awaiting more test results, Rams had not yet ruled out injured reserve for Matthew Stafford. By today, after noting those results were better than expected, Sean McVay definitively says IR not an option for Stafford, who remains ‘day to day.'”

Obviously, this is good news for the Rams, who’ve been better than most expected them to be. Much of that is thanks to Stafford and his play and also the play of breakout wide receiver Puka Nacua. It’s helped that Stafford has fed Nacua the ball quite often, but he’s been superb to start the season. He didn’t look like the Super Bowl champion quarterback of two years ago, and the Rams might not look that impressive again, but this is still an intriguing team.

Now that we know Stafford won’t be out long-term, the intrigue may have increased.

The NFL world had plenty to say on the Matthew Stafford update.
