Speculation has run around Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. The long-time coach once again brought his team to another winning season this year. But they put up a listless performance against the Buffalo Bills on Monday afternoon, resulting in another playoff loss.

Tomlin has been the subject of departure rumors. Whether it’s calls from fans and otherwise to potentially lose his job or “move on” to other rumors that he might step away, they’re going around. But according to news emerging on Tuesday, Tomlin has already gotten in front of it.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo shared a tidbit on Tuesday on Tomlin and his current status. It’s remained unchanged after a meeting the Steelers coach held with his players.

“In a team meeting today, Mike Tomlin told Steelers players the speculation about him stepping away is unfounded and he plans on coaching the team in 2024,” Garafolo posted. Garafolo broke the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

After Bill Cowher retired following the 2005 season, Tomlin assumed the role of head coach. He’s held that title since 2006, meaning he’s been the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach for the last eighteen years. The Steelers have only had three coaches since they hired Chuck Noll in 1970. They’re not a franchise that usually sees coaches out quickly. That’s probably why a lot of patience has been practiced. It seems like that’s the case again here.
