There’s no more wondering in Pittsburgh. The Steelers will be bringing Mike Tomlin back in 2024 and potentially beyond as well.

On Thursday, Steelers owner Art Rooney II made it clear. The Steelers will not be moving on from Tomlin but will work on extending their current coach’s contract.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the news.

“After Mike Tomlin’s press conference, team president Art Rooney II told the Post-Gazette the Steelers ‘plan to extend Mike’s contract,’ as expected,” Dulac said. Dulac posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Despite a lot of chatter, the Steelers don’t ever really move on from coaches like that. They’ve only had three since the NFL and AFL merger in 1970: Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher, and Tomlin. Since 2006, Tomlin has presided over the Steelers as their head coach. He’s yet to post a losing season in those years since and has often taken them to the NFL Playoffs. That included a postseason berth this season, albeit short-lived, after losing to the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.

So although some have gotten fatigued by Tomlin, they will have to wait a little while longer. There’s no telling how long the extension will be, but it sure sounds like Mike Tomlin will be Pittsburgh’s coach for the foreseeable.
