Over a decade after exiting Boston, Theo Epstein is back.

The Red Sox will welcome their former high-ranking executive, who helped lead the club to its first World Series in 96 years, back to the organization. Sportico reported Friday that Epstein will return as a partial owner and as a member of their ownership group’s advisory board.

“One-time Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein is returning to the organization, taking part ownership of Fenway Sports Group and joining in the role of senior advisor,” Sportico reported.

Following the 2011 season, Epstein left the Red Sox organization. He went to the Chicago Cubs, where he helped lead them to their first World Series since 1908 back in 2016.

“It’s a great honor, something I’m really excited about. It’s just exciting to be joining such a dynamic, groundbreaking company across multiple sports, doing so many innovative things at the cutting edge of everything going on in sports these days. For me it’s perfect, I was looking for a pathway into ownership,” he said via Sportico.

Epstein’s return is the latest reshuffle inside the American League East. The Baltimore Orioles made a significant move on Thursday, as the O’s acquired former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes. The Orioles will also get new ownership soon. Things are getting active with Spring Training right around the corner.
