History was made as the Golden State Warriors tied the Chicago Bulls all-time regular season win record on Sunday night, winning their 72nd game with a 92-86 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

With one game remaining, the Warriors have a chance to get a record-breaking 73rd win and pass the 95-96 Bulls as the best regular season team in NBA history. In a surprising move the best player on that team, Michael Jordan, told Warriors center Draymond Green that he wants the dubs to get the record. Green described the interaction over All-Star Weekend earlier this year in a post-game scrum. Via ESPN:

“Obviously with [Scottie Pippen] coming out with what he said, like that’s cool, at the end of the day we respect those guys. We got one of them in our locker room, which is great. [Michael Jordan] told me at All-Star “Go win the record, go get the record. If y’all don’t win this record, I’m going to be hot, and I’m blaming you. So, we’re almost there got one more game or he’s going to blame me, so we need to get it done.”

That’s a very classy move by Jordan. The Bulls record seemed unbreakable and now that the Warriors have a legitimate chance to beat it, Jordan has thrown his support behind the team. That’s not an easy thing for a competitor like Jordan to do. That’s greatness recognizing greatness.

The Warriors have a chance to beat the all-time record as they face off against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
