Last November, a TV crew for the Animal Planet’s show River Monsters was out filming in Australia. What they didn’t know is they would get footage that would make headlines.

River Monsters star Jeremy Wade and the production crew came across a man who had been deserted on an island they used to shoot for around 60 hours. Surprisingly enough, the story was kept quiet until the network aired the footage and moment last week.

The director of the episode, Stephen Shearman, told Inside Edition that the man “was prepared to die”:

“He had said his last prayer,” Stephen Shearman, the director of the episode told Inside Edition. “He was prepared to die and meet his maker.”

Yahoo reported that Shearman said the real reason why the crew and network were there, was to try and solve the mystery of six men who died in a plane crash near the Gulf of Carpentaria.

It’s safe to say when they uncovered the deserted man, he took priority.

“This guy with no clothes was running out of the cave, waving his arms out,” Shearman told Yahoo.

The man is named Tremine (not Tom Hanks), and he’s a roofer from Borroloola, Australia. He said that he was out fishing and left his boat to find good oysters. When he tried to walk back, he suffered from sunstroke, and couldn’t make it back to his boat and was stranded.

Nobody knew Tremine was missing and he had been stranded without supplies for around 60 hours at the time of his discovery.

“It was quite a shock when we discovered this semi-naked guy coming out of the cave,” Shearman said.

To make matters more ridiculous, Yahoo reports the crew’s guide for the day, Ashley, knew Tremine from Borroloola.

“It was his friend. He was completely dumbfounded,” Shearman said.
