Manchester United Old Trafford

A Manchester United fan from Sierra Leone made the trip to Old Trafford to see his favorite team play Sunday. But that all appeared to be ruined after Sunday’s dummy bomb scare.

Precautions were taken, and the team’s final Premier League match of the season against Bournemouth was postponed for Tuesday. This left the fan, Moses, in tears after traveling 3,000 miles to see the game.

He had initially made the trip after being invited by friends at the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST), according to BBC. Yet, despite the match being cancelled and appearing to leave his dreams shattered, the group has offered to extend his trip, and pay for any expenses involved.

If that wasn’t enough, BBC reports that they are planning to send Moses to watch Manchester United’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium next week.

So maybe this wasn’t entirely a bad thing for Moses, who will now get more than what he initially expected.

He told BBC News:

“I was so disappointed and I cried right away and people come around me and hug me,” he said.

“I come far away from Sierra Leone. I come to watch this match and it doesn’t happen.”

“This is my first time in real life to watch Manchester live and it doesn’t happen.”

The measures were necessary though. After recent terror threats and one explosion that actually was carried out in Paris, you can’t be too safe. MUST chairman Ian Stirling told BBC:

“When we heard the game was abandoned we had to tell Moses and the poor lad was distraught – being so close to the ground and not being able to go in, not knowing when he might get this chance again.

“He’s still distraught at not getting in to Old Trafford. That was his dream. But we’re trying to do the right thing for a friend.”

Despite initially being extremely upset, surely Moses will have fun at the match on Tuesday, and enjoy the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium next week.
