The women’s college basketball world is all abuzz over Iowa’s Caitlin Clark as the Hawkeyes prepare to play for the national title on Sunday.
However, Angel Reese, who stars for the LSU Tigers, would like people to know that they’ve done their part to raise awareness of women’s basketball too.
In fact, she feels like the LSU Tigers, coached by Kim Mulkey, have put women’s basketball on the map “by itself.”

“I think LSU, by itself, has put women’s basketball on the map,” said Reese. “We’ve grown women’s basketball for being who we are.”
While LSU has accomplished a lot recently, they have yet to win a women’s college basketball national title. Meanwhile, Pat Summitt’s Tennessee and Geno Auriemma’s UConn teams have racked up plenty of them as they helped raise awareness and build the blocks for women’s college basketball.
The college basketball world certainly had some strong opinions about whether or not Reese had a point.
“Reese meant nothing malicious by this comment. It’s simply confidence in her team and her incredible abilities on the court, but it’s also objectively an incorrect statement,” said Saturday Down South.
“Um, no sweetheart. Pat Summitt put women’s basketball on the Map so did Geno and now Dawn. LSU to my knowledge has never won a basketball championship in men’s or women’s,” said Gabriel Quinney.
“Yes, it was definitely not Pat Summit, Geno Auriemma, Dawn Staley and countless other talented and humble coaches and players that put WBB on the map, it was the 2023 LSU squad,” said another fan.
