Brittney Griner is widely considered one of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time, and she’s set to get a pretty major honor this month.
On Feb. 18, the Baylor Bears are set to retire the No. 42 jersey that Brittney Griner wore when she wore during her time with the team. And it sounds like she’s quite excited to receive such a high honor from her alma mater.
“I’m honored to return home to Baylor and celebrate where so much of my journey started,” Griner said according to the Associated Press. “I’m grateful to Coach Nicki (Collen) and the entire Baylor community and looking forward to the opportunity to be back on campus, spend time with the team and have my family beside me to share in this incredible moment. Sic ‘Em Bears.”
Obviously, this is a pretty significant honor for one of the most iconic women’s basketball players of all time, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
I’m so glad to see that @brittneygriner will finally have her jersey retired at Baylor. I had the good fortune and honor to be on the call of more than 30 of her @BaylorWBB games and am so glad I will be there with @airswoopes22 for the television broadcast on Feb 18th. #NCAAWBB https://t.co/Oe7b49ngtU

Took long enough but well deserved for BG no doubt. One of the best to play the game indeed. https://t.co/trSFL4a2IX
