In his 21 seasons as head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, Bill Self has had no shortage of success.

Two National Championships, Seventeen Big 12 regular season championships, 12 of which were won outright and not shared with any other team, and nine Big 12 Tournament championships, the most of any coach in conference history by far.

This week in Kansas City may mark Self’s toughest Big 12 Tournament test yet, though, as the coach revealed Monday that the Jayhawks would be without their two leading scorers and rebounders.

Guard Kevin McCullar Jr (18.3 points, 6.0 rebounds per game) and forward Hunter Dickinson (18.0 points, 10.8 rebounds per game) both will miss the Big 12 Tournament due to recent injuries.

McCullar missed four games in February with a bone bruise in his left knee, and re-aggravated the injury in Kansas’ victory over Kansas State on March 5. He played just 15 minutes in the regular season finale against Houston, scoring zero points.

Dickinson dislocated his shoulder in the season finale against Houston and has already started rehabbing it, per Self.

Self also noted that both players are expected to be ready for the NCAA Tournament, and the benefit of having an extra week to rest and recover from their injuries will help in a big way.

Kansas went 22-9 in the regular season and 10-8 in conference play, setting a new high mark for single-season conference losses under Self.
