The Louisville Cardinals were historically bad last season, finishing the 2022-23 season with a 4-28 record on the year. It doesn’t look like things will be much better this season, that is if their exhibition game against Division 2 school Kentucky Wesleyan on Monday night.

Kentucky Wesleyan wasn’t anything special last season against much worse competition in Division 2, going just 15-14 on the year.

But Louisville made them look terrific on Monday night, playing a back-and-forth affair that Kentucky Wesleyan was able to take control of. The Division 2 program would go on to defeat Louisville 71-68 on Monday night in a huge upset.

It’s obviously just an exhibition game and things like this do happen across college basketball. St. Johns also lost an exhibition game earlier this month to Division 2 Pace University.

However, considering how bad Louisville was last year, this certainly isn’t a good look. Fans took notice of this embarrassing loss and aren’t exactly expecting a great season once their regular season kicks off.

This continues a troubling trend for Louisville basketball that shows just how bad things have gotten within this once-excellent basketball program.

They also lost an exhibition game to a Division 2 team last year as well, falling to Lenoir-Rhyne 57-47 a year to the day after their loss to Kentucky Wesleyan.

Maybe Louisville will perform better once the regular season comes around. But it certainly seems like they could be in for a repeat of last season where they were amongst the worst teams in all of college basketball.
