There were some real “Diaper Dandies” on the court for Saturday night’s Duke-North Carolina game.

We’re not just paying tribute to the legendary Dick Vitale and his famous catch phrase here — there were, literally, babies in diapers, crawling around on the court at the Dean E. Smith Center.

The “Diapers to Dorms Dash,” which has become a popular tradition at the game in recent years, featured five babies crawling from a parent on one side of midcourt to a parent on the other side. The event is sponsored by the College Foundation of North Carolina, with the winner getting $529 (the event promotes the state’s NC 529 Plan college savings accounts).

Babies will do what babies do, however, and four of Saturday night’s contestants headed in several different directions except the straight line to mom or dad on the other side.

The other baby appeared to have been training their entire life for the event and bolted to the other side. It was like watching UNC great Michael Jordan playing a bunch of elementary school kids in basketball.

Take note of the Tar Heels mascot Rameses, crawling along with them, as well as the cameraman down on his elbows trying to catch the crawlers.

Social media loved it, but some fans were brutal to the poor kids (we know they were kidding, right? Surely we haven’t sunk that far as a society that we’re criticizing kids in diapers for not performing in the big moment).
