The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team faced off against the Dayton Flyers on Wednesday night. And their night got off to an excellent start, scoring before the game ever even began.
Dayton guard Destiny Bohanon, who wears jersey number 33 for the Flyers, checked into the game at the start with a number 53 jersey.
By rule, this is a technical foul that results in free throws for UConn. Those free throws came before the two teams even had the opening tip-off for the game.
UConn guard Azzi Fudd stepped up to the free throw line and nailed both technical free throws to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead before tip-off.

That’s one heck of a way to start the game for the Huskies. And many fans had plenty to say about the strange beginning to this game.

What a weird way to start the season. I wonder how come Dayton coach didn't catch that. JS

Everyone has their realization they’re not going pro/D-1/varsity and mine was when we got an administrative technical freshman year because my coach forgot to put me in the scorebook. Humbling moment. https://t.co/HddzukKxma

Unfortunately for Dayton, things didn’t get much better for them once the two teams officially started the game.
It was always going to be tough for them to come away with a victory against UConn, who comes into the season as the No. 2 ranked team in the country. But this game wasn’t even all that competitive, as the Huskies would go on to come away with a dominant 102-58 victory.
The technical foul to start the game for Dayton obviously didn’t help matters. But it’s safe to say that UConn would have won this game comfortably regardless…
