As the search for a new Alabama offensive coordinator continues, one name has emerged. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Oklahoma assistant coach Jeff Lebby could be a legitimate candidate.

Thamel talked about Lebby and the potential connection to Alabama on The Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday about the coaching search.

“I would think that Nick Saban saw the fits that Tennessee and Josh Heupel gave him this year, and offensively, I think they’ll probably trend a little bit and maybe overcorrect a little bit more that way as they go,” Thamel told Finebaum. He continued, “Now, I’m not saying they’re gonna turn into the Baylor offense from the mid-2000s. But one name I’ve heard is (Jeff Lebby), the Oklahoma offensive coordinator. He’s obviously had success in the SEC West footprint.”

Lebby was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Ole Miss during the 2020-2021 season before moving on to OU last year.

The Sooners finished 13th in the nation in total offense, averaging 474 yards and 33 points per game. Lebby’s offense at Ole Miss made quarterback Matt Corral a Heisman contender and now an NFL quarterback with the Carolina Panthers.

The current offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, Bill O’Brien, seems to be on his way to becoming the New England Patriots’ next offensive coordinator. But he hasn’t officially taken the job yet. So, for now, all of this is just speculation.
