Following the injury to Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, head coach Steve Sarkisian hasn’t revealed much about his plans at quarterback this week, saying only that both backup quarterbacks Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning would get first-team reps during practice. But one Texas Longhorns expert seems to think we’ll see Manning on the field this week.

Five-star quarterback Arch Manning has yet to play a single snap for the Texas Longhorns despite signing with the team as the highest-ranked player in the 2023 high school recruiting class. But Texas Longhorns insider Bobby Burton of On3’s Inside Texas predicts that changes this week.

“Three weeks ago, Sark, out of the middle of nowhere, said ‘Oh by the way, Arch Manning had his best week of practice ever.’ That was a little nod that this guy might be getting ready,” Burton said during Tuesday’s episode of Andy Staples On3. “Behind the scenes, he’s been taking reps with the ones and twos this entire season — not just Maalik Murphy.

“I have a strong sense we’re going to see Arch Manning at some point during BYU and maybe for the rest of the season depending on Quinn Ewers and his injury.”

Sarkisian did indicate that Murphy was slightly ahead of Manning on the depth chart and would get the starting nod ahead of him if the game was played on Monday. We’ll have to see if that changes before Saturday – or if Manning sees snaps either way.
