Arch Manning Syndication: Austin American-Statesman

The Texas Longhorns will be starting a new quarterback this week after starting quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a shoulder injury which will keep him sidelined for Saturday afternoon’s game against the BYU Cougars. But even though Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian announced on Thursday that Maalik Murphy would get the start in place of Ewers, that’s not necessarily what the team’s official depth chart says.

According to a report from Texas Longhorns beat writer Joe Cook of Inside Texas, both Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning are listed as co-starters on the team’s official depth chart ahead of the game with the depth chart reading Maalik Murphy “OR” Arch Manning as the team’s first-team quarterback on Saturday.

“FWIW, the flip card says OR,” Cook said on X, sharing a photo of the Texas Longhorns depth chart appearing to list Murphy and Manning as co-starters for this week’s game.

Obviously, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Manning will get the start or play first-team reps on Saturday, especially after Thursday’s announcement declaring Murphy as the starter, but it is certainly an interesting development and the college football world had a lot to say about it.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Manning plays on Saturday even if Murphy starts.
