Texas Longhorns five-star freshman quarterback Arch Manning got some pretty disappointing news on Thursday afternoon when the team officially announced that he would not be the team’s starting quarterback in place of the injured Quinn Ewers during this week’s game against the BYU Cougars as Maalik Murphy has earned the role instead. But it sounds like Manning could still see some snaps.

During his Thursday afternoon press conference, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian announced that Maalik Murphy would be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns on Saturday. But he also hasn’t ruled out the idea of playing Arch Manning in some capacity on Saturday to get him some valuable experience.

“Maalik’s going to start the game and go play in this game,” Sarkisian said according to On3. “I haven’t made a decision if I want to get Arch in there just to get him in there or not, but we have discussed that some because I do think there’s some valuable experience for him in that. But, I have to make that’s in the best interest of the team.”

While it will certainly be disappointing to some fans that Manning isn’t starting, fans would undoubtedly be excited to see him take the field on Saturday even if it isn’t as a starter.
