Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Baker Mayfield has gotten his first year in Tampa off on the right foot. He’s played a big part in the Bucs’ 3-1 start to the season. With the team on a bye in Week 5, Mayfield’s opted to take part in ESPN’s ‘College Gameday.’
GameDay will emanate from the Red River Rivalry, a game Mayfield knows all too well. Mayfield famously starred at the University of Oklahoma from 2015-2017, where he earned a Heisman Trophy that ultimately helped launch his NFL career.
Oklahoma is set to participate in the 119th game in the “Red River Rivalry” against the Texas Longhorns. This one is very special to both schools, as both are undefeated heading into the matchup. It is also notably the last time these teams will face off in the Big 12, with both set to leave for the SEC in 2024.
The show will be in Dallas, Texas, for the game, and Mayfield is set to play a role in the coverage. It has been announced that Mayfield will be the guest picker for the pregame show.

BAKER MAYFIELD WILL BE BACK AT THE RED RIVER RIVALRY https://t.co/j7q9lYHL96 pic.twitter.com/GunTNx0Ggf

Mayfield is perhaps the most recognizable face to come from either team in recent memory, so it isn’t all that surprising that ESPN opted to go with him as the guest picker.
However, it is at least somewhat surprising that they didn’t go with a Texas alum, especially since the game is on their campus.
Regardless, Mayfield will be the one making the guest picker, and it’s likely pretty safe to say that he will be riding for the Sooners with his prediction.
