This is a tough time for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, following the Buckeyes’ 30-24 loss to the archrival Michigan Wolverines Saturday.

Fans are upset after Ohio State’s third straight loss in the bitter rivalry. Day said players were “devastated” after the loss.

So the last thing Day needs is some Michigan-based baseball team trolling him, but that’s what happened. The Kalamazoo Growlers, a summer collegiate team in the Northwoods League, announced on X/Twitter it is offering Day a job as third-base coach.

The job offer is a clear reference to Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh’s comments after the Wolverines beat Ohio State in 2021, when he said of Day, “Some people are born on third base and act like they’ve hit a triple.”

Just in case some fans didn’t get the reference, the Growlers’ media release spelled it out.

“We think Ryan was born for the position.” Growlers Owner Brian Colopy said. “We will do whatever it takes to get Ryan to Kalamazoo.”

“The team believes it will need to raise significant funds to pay for their increased coaching salary budget,” the press release continued.

To that end, the Growlers are selling “RYAN DAY – OFFICIAL 3rd Base Coach” T-shirts. The shirts, bearing Day’s image, are available for pre-order starting at $25 on the Growlers Square.Site.

In terms of trolling, this is master class-level stuff. The non-Ohio State portion of social media voiced their approval of the Growlers’ troll job (and marketing ploy).
