The Michigan Wolverines football program is currently facing an NCAA investigation into allegations of illegal sign stealing. And while that NCAA investigation is not expected to be completed until 2024 at the earliest, the Big Ten conference could act before that – and it sounds like the coaches throughout the conference are demanding that happen.

According to a report from college football insider Pete Thamel of ESPN, “a vast majority of the Big Ten coaches” expressed their frustration with in a video call with Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti on Wednesday where they demanded that the conference take action and punish Michigan.

“Collectively, the coaches want the Big Ten to act — right now,” said a source familiar with the call. “What are we waiting on? We know what happened.”

According to Thamel, coaches used words like “tainted,” “fraudulent” and “unprecedented” to describe the situation and explained to Petitti just how much of an advantage Michigan gained as a result of the alleged illegal sign stealing.

“I don’t think the Big Ten understood how upset everyone was,” said another source. “The tenor of the call was asking the Big Ten to show leadership — the conference and the presidents. An unprecedented violation of the rules would require unprecedented action from the Big Ten.”

We’ll have to see how the Big Ten responds to this controversy.
