The Florida Gators have lost several players to the transfer portal this month, but there isn’t one more significant than the loss of star running back Trevor Etienne. But even as he leaves the program, it sounds like head coach Billy Napier has nothing but kind things to say about his former running back.
During a press conference this week, Billy Napier was asked about the departure of Trevor Etienne. Though he didn’t talk too much about the specifics of his decision to leave the program, he did make it clear that he is proud of what Etienne accomplished with the Gators.
“I think Trevor has been great for the Gators. That’s what I would say,” Napier said according to On3.
“I’ve got nothing but respect for Trevor – his attitude, his practice habits, his contribution to the team,” Napier said. “Nothing but respect.”
In his two seasons with the Gators, Etienne rushed for 1,472 yards and 14 scores on 249 carries. He’s emerged as a legitimate star in college football and is considered the top running back in the transfer portal this cycle.
And wherever he goes next, it sounds like Napier will be hoping it works out well for him.
“We wish him well going forward,” Napier said.
