Trucked

In any football game, it’s usually the running backs who are willing to lower their shoulders and run through defenders while rushing the ball. At the very least, that’s certainly not a stereotype that quarterbacks have earned. But during Saturday afternoon’s game between the Virginia Cavaliers and the North Carolina Tar Heels, Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong put that stereotype to the test with a massive play in a huge moment.

With his team trailing North Carolina 31-21 late in the fourth quarter, Armstrong knew he had to make a play, and he went out and did it. Armstrong dropped out to pass but when he saw no receivers open, he took matters into his own hands by taking off and running with the ball.

As he approached the goal line, Armstrong saw two defenders in his way. But instead of running out of bounds or sliding, Armstrong took a very different approach, putting his shoulder down and plowing through both defenders for a Virginia touchdown.

The late, heroic touchdown made the score 31-28, cutting the North Carolina lead to one score with just a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, the Cavaliers couldn’t pull off the comeback, falling 31-28 in the game. But this was still an incredible effort from Armstrong.
