This week, LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels was named one of four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, joining Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr., Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., and Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix. And it sure sounds like LSU head coach Brian Kelly thinks that Daniels should win the award.
During a recent press conference, Brian Kelly talked about having the chance to watch both Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix play in the Pac-12 Championship game on Friday night. While he was impressed with both quarterbacks, it sounds like he’d still pick his quarterback over both of them.
“I’m a Jayden Daniels fan,” Kelly said according to On3. “I was watching the game too – yes. But I was not looking for anyone not to succeed. I wanted them to play their very best. I was looking for a great game and I was looking for both teams to play at their very best. But I wanted to see how he measured up to who was going to be his chief competition.
“I hadn’t watched them play all year. It wasn’t that I had this opportunity to sit down and watch Oregon play or sit down and watch Washington play. So it was an opportunity for me to sit and watch both of them play.”
Kelly then gave his final assessment on the comparison between the three quarterbacks.
“My unbiased opinion is Jayden Daniels is the best player in college football,” Kelly said.
We’ll have to see if the Heisman voters agree.
