Clemson has a new starting quarterback and it’s Cade Klubnik. Klubnik became the starting quarterback in the game ACC Championship Game against North Carolina.

There, Klubnik who is a freshman replaced then-starting quarterback DJ Ulagaletei who had struggled throughout most of the season.

In that game, he threw for 377 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Tigers to victory. Now, head coach Dabo Swinney has made it official, Klubnik will be the Tiger’s starting QB when they face Tennessee in the Orange Bowl later this month.

Naturally, the freshman is very excited about this opportunity.

“This week has kind of, I guess, made me realize I just need to settle in a little bit,” Klubnik said, according to On3. “But it’s been fun, it’s been awesome. Just really a dream come true and just I’m super excited about this team. I think we got a real shot going into this game. … I’m just trying to be me. I’m not trying to change anything.

“I’m just trying to be the guy that I was when I first got here on the first day. And I think if I just keep on doing that, we’ll do alright.”

Klubnik may be the missing piece that Clemson needs to get back into the playoffs next year.
