The USC Trojans have been out of contention for the College Football Playoff for a number of weeks already, but with Saturday night’s loss to the Oregon Ducks, they’re now officially eliminated from Pac-12 championship contention, as well. And that’s a strange feeling for USC star quarterback Caleb Williams.

During a press conference after the team’s loss to Oregon on Saturday night, Caleb Williams opened up about how “weird” it feels that he and his team will be unable to compete for a championship this season.

“It’s weird, like you said,” Williams said according to On3. “I haven’t played much, my whole career playing ball, where I’m not at the end of the season and have a chance to go to the championship or whatever the case may be.

“It’s a weird feeling, it’s tough. It’s tough to lose and tough to not be in the position to win championships, which you train super hard for years to be in position to win championships.”

In addition to being out of championship contention, Williams is almost certainly out of contention for this year’s Heisman Trophy. Without much left to play for this season, he’ll simply be playing out of pride for his team and himself.
