College football players are supposed to only have four years of eligibility which could extend to five years if the player takes a redshirt at some point during his college career. But after a series of medical hardship waivers and an extra year of eligibility granted to all players during the COVID-19 pandemic, one college football player is about to head into his ninth season of college football.

This week, Miami Hurricanes tight end Cam McCormick announced that he will be returning to the Miami Hurricanes for one more season which will mark his ninth season of college football since entering college football back in 2016.

“Miami tight end Cam McCormick announces he will return for his NINTH season of college football. He was in the same HS recruiting class as Rashan Gary, Nick Bosa and Jalen Hurts. McCormick battled thru season-ending injuries in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021,” college football expert Bruce Feldman wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, it’s pretty insane to hear of a player remaining in college football for nearly a decade, and the news led to a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see how McCormick performs in his final season of eligibility.
