Even with the new NCAA transfer rules, it’s not often that you see a player suit up for a fourth different school over the course of a collegiate career.

However, quarterback Casey Thompson will be doing just that.

The seventh-year senior will be transferring to Oklahoma, On3 reported Thursday night.

Thompson has had a very unique seven years in college. He originally committed to Texas in 2018 to play for head coach Tom Herman. After appearing sparingly as a backup in 2019 and 2020, both of which ended up being redshirt years (one traditional, one COVID), Thompson was the Longhorns’ starter in 2021 and went 165-for-261 for 2,113 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in Steve Sarkisian’s first season after replacing the fired Herman.

After the 2021 season, Thompson sought a fresh start and transferred to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, where he started 10 games and went 173-for-274 for 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions before suffering an injury and subsequently losing the starting job to Jeff Sims.

It appeared Thompson’s career would come to an end as a graduate transfer with the FAU Owls, reuniting him with Herman who was hired there in December 2022. He went into the season as the starter, but suffered a torn ACL in FAU’s third game of the season, a loss to the Clemson Tigers, which qualified him for a medical redshirt and one final season.

That brings Thompson to Oklahoma, where he will likely start the season backing up Jackson Arnold. Thompson’s father, Charles Thompson, was Oklahoma’s quarterback from 1986-88.

The Sooners and Longhorns will face off in the annual Red River Showdown on October 12.
