To this point in the 2023 college football season, Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman has been one of the sport’s breakout stars.

But while the Wake Forest transfer has become known for his signature beard, he’s now switching things up, revealing that he has shaved his facial hair down to a mustache.

The Notre Dame football team’s official X (formerly Twitter) account revealed the new look on Wednesday with a post captioned “Stache Steez.”

Considering that (almost) everyone loves a good mustache, it didn’t take long for the college football community to take to social media to weigh in on Hartman’s new look.

Following a five-year career at Wake Forest, in which he was named to the All-ACC second-team in 2021 and All-ACC third-team in 2022, the 24-year-old Hartman transferred to South Bend last offseason, beating out Tyler Buchner — who later transferred to Alabama — to become the Fighting Irish’s starting quarterback.

While Notre Dame likely won’t make the College Football Playoff after having already suffered losses to Ohio State and Louisville, Hartman is enjoying a strong sixth-year senior season, having completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 1,838 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions in eight games.

Currently on a bye week following a 48-20 victory over USC this past Saturday, the 6-2 Fighting Irish will return to action Oct. 28 when they face Pittsburgh.
