Having already defeated the Boise State Broncos in the LA Bowl over the weekend, the UCLA Bruins have already seen their season end.

The Bruins finished 8-5, and head coach Chip Kelly seems to have saved his job after multiple reports throughout the season that the Bruins would be moving on.

One Bruin who did decide to move on is freshman quarterback Dante Moore. Moore, a five-star recruit from Detroit, entered the transfer portal on November 30 and announced Monday he would be transferring to Oregon.

Moore initially committed to Oregon during his senior year of high school, only to de-commit and play for the Bruins.

In nine games for UCLA (five starts), Moore went 114-for-253 for 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions. Moore’s three touchdown passes in UCLA’s 35-10 win over San Diego State early in the season tied him with Josh Rosen and Cade McNown for UCLA’s single-game true freshman record.

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, Kelly had nothing but positive things to say about Moore. Kelly also had much to say about the transfer portal and how it affects the quarterback position.

“It’s just the nature of the position. If you look at the transfer rate for all quarterbacks? It’s probably the highest position that transfers in college football,” Kelly said via On3. “Only one guy can play. I think when you factor in some of the other factors like NIL and some of those things? It becomes a different world.”

Despite that, Kelly noted that he won’t stop recruiting top quarterbacks, saying, “I don’t think you can cookie cutter anything and say we did this, we’ll do that. I don’t think you’ll ever say we’re not going to do this; we’re not gonna do that. You treat everybody as an individual, you try to get to know him as well as you can based on NCAA rules, and then you try to make it work. That’s what you try to do.”
