The University of Virginia announced a shocking tragedy on Monday morning when university president Jim Ryan revealed that a mass shooting took place on campus that killed three students and left two more injured. Current Virginia Cavaliers linebacker/defensive end D’Sean Perry was among the three killed, and it appears that one of his former teammates was the shooter.

Following the shocking shooting, police announced that they were searching for a man named Christopher Darnell Jones in connection with the incident. Jones is believed to be the shooter and as of Monday morning had not yet been apprehended.

“The UVA Police Department is looking for Christopher Darnell Jones regarding the shooting incident that occurred on the grounds of the University of Virginia. Call 911 if seen, do not approach,” the UVA Police Department said in a Tweet.

Ryan said in a university-wide letter that the suspect was a student, and cccording to Jones’ online bio, he is actually a former University of Virginia football player.

According to his bio on the team website, Jones was a freshman running back for the team back in 2018 but did not appear in any games. It’s not clear when he left the team, but he is no longer on Virginia’s active roster.
