Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney had a lot of explaining to do after his Monday night outburst against a Clemson fan on his radio call-in show.

Swinney got upset when a caller questioned why he was getting paid a bunch of money only to lead his team to a 4-4 record.  The caller also cited the Bible, while accusing the coach of acting arrogantly since winning a second national title in 2018.

Swinney said the caller was “part of the problem” and then called them a “smart-*** kid”.

Swinney explained himself further on Tuesday.

“I had some idiot try to give me the Old Testament and he got an Old Testament answer,” Swinney said, via The State’s Chapel Fowler. “Y’all print that one.”

Swinney added: “That’s why most coaches don’t take calls.”

Swinney has come under fire from a lot of fans and the media because of his stance on the NIL and the transfer portal. Swinney has stood by his convictions when it comes to both subjects.

“Some people say I’m stubborn,” he said. “I say I’m convicted in my beliefs.”

The Tigers haven’t played for a national championship since they defeated Alabama for the 2018 national championship. The last time they played in the College Football Playoff was in 2020 against Ohio State, whom they lost to.
