Bo Nix Oregon Bo Nix leaves the field after the game against Hawaii in Eugene, Ore. Sept. 16, 2023.

On Saturday night, Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix led his team to victory over Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans. And Oregon head coach Dan Lanning thinks his performance in the game should put him in the discussion for the Heisman Trophy.

During his postgame press conference after the win on Saturday night, Dan Lanning claimed that the performance by Bo Nix was “Heisman-worthy.”

“It was fun to sit out there and watch two elite quarterbacks battle it out,” Dan Lanning said. “Obviously, we’ve got a really special one on our sideline. I think that’s a Heisman-worthy performance from Bo and fun to do it in front of the fifth-largest crowd ever here in Autzen Stadium.”

It was certainly a strong performance from Nix as he completed 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 412 yards and four touchdowns. And the thing that impressed Lanning the most was his consistency.

“I’ll have to go back and watch the film. Just his consistency,” Lanning said. “To not punt the ball in the first half, I think speaks to his efficiency. Not all of that was necessarily throwing the ball, it’s him, again, getting us into the right run check. Him checking us into proper plays, just being efficient with the ball. I’ll have to go back and watch it to see if there were any plays that stuck out in particular.”

Nix is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. We’ll have to see if he can take home college football’s most coveted award.
