Colorado shocked the college football world in Week 1. Deion Sanders and his Buffaloes went into TCU as 20-point underdogs and knocked off the 17th-ranked Horned Frogs in a stunning upset. The hype machine is rolling, and CU is gearing up for its home opener on Saturday. They welcome longtime rival Nebraska back to Folsom Field in Boulder, and there’s no love lost between these two programs. Tensions will be high, and expectations will be too. That’s precisely why ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit will have his eye on that game.

Herbstreit went on SportsCenter before College GameDay and discussed the big-time matchup between the Huskers and Buffaloes. Later in the segment, Kirk sent a loud and clear message to Deion and Colorado on their approach for this game.

“They’re going to have to be able to, really, for me, show some serious maturity,” Herbstreit said via On3 Sports. “I’m sure that’s what Coach Prime’s working on. We know about his son Shedeur, we know about Travis Hunter, we know about–they’ve got tremendous playmakers. I think to me, it’s just continuing to be disciplined. The way they played last week, I think if you’re really a football guy, they’re kind of an old-school team. With the way they line up and play physical and play with great discipline. I think the maturity of this team will be tested,” Herbstreit said. “Any time any team in college football comes off the radar and has a big win, all of a sudden a lot of attention comes on them.”

Kirk went on to say that he knows that Sanders has done this his entire life. However, the struggle college kids have at times with handling the noise around them is very real.  And so, the Nebraska game is a huge barometer for Colorado and Deion Sanders, Herbstreit says, and it’s hard to argue too.
