The Georgia Bulldogs have had a rough couple of weeks.

After losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship game for their first loss since the 2021 SEC Championship (also to Alabama), the back-to-back National Champions fell short of the College Football Playoff and will face the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl instead.

The Bulldogs will be without EDGE Marvin Jones Jr, however, as On3 reported Tuesday evening Jones intends to enter the transfer portal.

Jones appeared in 25 games over two seasons for the Bulldogs. A shoulder injury in 2022 limited him to mostly special teams, but he still recorded one sack on the season. His 2023 season was a step forward as Jones finished with 12 tackles, with 4.5 of them coming for a loss. He had a sack against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Georgia’s regular-season finale.

Jones was a five-star recruit and ranked 20th overall in the class of 2022. He is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was offered by nearly 20 schools including Alabama, Michigan, Miami, Florida State, USC, and others before committing to Georgia. He took visits to Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, and Florida State in addition to the Bulldogs.

It’s worth noting that one of the primary recruiters that got Jones to Georgia was Dan Lanning, who was then Georgia’s defensive coordinator and is now the head coach of the Oregon Ducks.
