Auburn Tigers defensive back DJ James and punt returner Koy Moore each made a crucial mistake in Auburn’s heartbreaking loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide as Moore muffed a punt to set up Alabama’s final drive, and James was beaten for the go-ahead touchdown. As a result, they’ve received a lot of criticism, but head coach Hugh Freeze is defending them.

During a recent press conference, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze addressed the criticism that his players have received, saying that their critics “need to get a life and a perspective.”

“I wish I had the words for him. I tried hard. I sat at his locker with him for awhile, he and Koy. It’s just tough,” Freeze said. “This world can be brutal. I get it on coaches, they are going to be brutal on me… You hate to see it when young men who are playing the game get attacked, I hate that. I think those people are, well, those people need to get a life and a perspective.”

Following the loss to Alabama, Auburn finished the season with a 6-6 record. As a result, they will now be facing off against the Maryland Terrapins in the Music City Bowl.
