The James Madison Dukes are undefeated this season with a perfect 10-0 record, but they will not be able to compete in the postseason after the team was denied a waiver from the NCAA. And they clearly are not happy about it.

The Dukes are ineligible for the postseason as there is a two-year waiting period for teams to become bowl eligible after joining the FBS from the FCS level.

So even though James Madison is unbeaten and would otherwise likely have a chance to play in a New Year’s Six bowl game, they have been ruled ineligible, even after seeking a waiver from the NCAA.

“We’re obviously disappointed in the outcome of the NCAA’s review of our request for bowl relief. We’re saddened for our university community, and in particular, we’re devastated for our football program, the coaches and student-athletes who have orchestrated an amazing season and earned the opportunity. As we turn the page, we have an incredible week lined up with College GameDay here and our final home game, so we’re focused on maximizing these moments for our university and celebrating our senior class,” JMU athletics said in a statement.

Given that this is their second year playing at the FBS level after moving up from the FCS, James Madison will be eligible for postseason play next season.
