For months, it’s been heavily speculated that Jim Harbaugh would choose to leave the Michigan Wolverines and pursue an opportunity in the NFL, especially if Michigan was able to win the College Football Playoff national title. But according to a recent report, that may not be the case, after all.

Prominent Michigan Wolverines insider and author John U. Bacon said on Saturday that he believes that Jim Harbaugh “genuinely wants to stay at Michigan,” after conversations with some of his sources.

“After talking with people who know more than I do, I believe Jim Harbaugh genuinely wants to stay at Michigan. He just ‘wants to know he’s wanted,’ several told me, and it’s not about the number. (He gave back $1.5M to department employees to compensate for Covid cutbacks.),” Bacon wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

“As one said, ‘If you want to know what Jim thinks, just listen,’ citing the times Harbaugh has said he’ll stay at Michigan ‘as long as they’ll have me.’ It seems the rest is up to Michigan,” Bacon said in a follow-up post.

Obviously, this is some pretty shocking news, especially as Harbaugh figures to be a candidate for several NFL head coaching vacancies, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see what ultimately happens.
